Henry is a fighter!

King Henry

King Henry

Henry is in remarkable spirits again today. The lump on his leg is large, and we are waiting for the new test results which should be in on Tuesday. We have decided that he is still himself, so if the tests show that the lymphoma is in real remission (as opposed to clinical remission), we will have the sarcoma removed. That means his leg will have to go with it, but we think he wants to stick around some more, if only for his regular diet of steak and cheese. High-protein, anti-cancer nutrition at its best.

Henry is running around on three legs now, since he is not putting any weight on the cancerous limb. We have been praying a lot, and right now we think amputation is the right thing to do for him. I may change my mind, but for NOW, I think it is right. He has too much life in him. He still teases his brothers with the toys, enjoys his treats most when his brothers are watching him get extra, and he still begs to go out for a walk. Of course, we can’t fulfill that last wish, but it is good to know he still wants to go out and “hunt.”

He is definitely the best friend I have. He is extremely smart and could put several of my students to shame with his vocabulary. I also firmly believe that we have a psychic connection, since I only need to think something and he does it–and he only has to think something and I do it.

Henry is very regal and people often give him the same nickname: “King.” And he is definitely that. We’ll do whatever he wants us to do–and I think for now at least, he wants us to help him stick around. If he changes his mind, we’ll do that, too. Even if it breaks my heart into nothing.
