The Return of Grendel–Summer 2009
Grendel has made a triumphant return. When I first saw him, my soul leapt up. I had really thought that the big blob of fur and blood on the highway was him. But thankfully, I was very wrong. He was much thinner, having–I think–just woken up from a very long hibernation. Within a week, he was his chubby old self again. However, he has forgotten me and runs for cover when I get within 100 yards. I made my husband clear off the bench that had been collecting trash so that Grendel could sunbathe again. I think Grendel is still shaking off the sleep and should get back to his old habits soon.
He has a new roommate this summer–a barn cat who must live off the mice or whatever we have in there. I have rarely gone in, since it is junky, so I can’t tell for sure what would attract the cat. Occasionally, the cat likes to dance on the hood of my parked car, but other than that, s/he keeps to her/himself–except for living in sin with Grendel.
I’ll write more when Grendel starts feeling his oats again. I think he is just working on getting his full figure back as his first priority right now.
